MIRCONA is the core business of ACT Ltd. and is the longest established Parting-off and Precision Grooving Tool manufacturer in the world! Its patented design of carbide insert, replaceable mechanical clamp and integral shank toolholder has remained unchanged since it was launched 40 Years ago! It can truly be said to have stood the test of time. Designed before the days of NC machines, this remarkable design of tooling has developed over the years to satisfy the demands of the latest CNC machines and the most difficult of today's materials. Mircona offers the worlds biggest single range of precision parting off, grooving and groove turning tools. The range consists of Circlip grooving, Relief grooving, "O" Ring grooving, Internal grooving, External grooving and Face grooving, Trepanning, Axial and Annular grooving. Over 3000 toolholders and 2000 carbide inserts are stocked in a variety of widths, grades, coatings, geometries and chip breakers and delivery is generally within 24 hours in the U.K.  Due to the immense strength designed into the integral shank it is demonstrably the Worlds Strongest Parting-off System, allowing a 3mm wide blade toolholder to part-off a 70mm diameter solid bar to centre using tool holder shank sizes from 1616mm to 3225mm square.

Essentially, MIRCONA are Specialist Toolholder Designers who due to massive investment in "state of the art" technology in DNC / CAD / CAM and Robotics are able to design and manufacture special grooving toolholders in less than 4/5 weeks upon receipt of customers component drawings. This rapid response and delivery gives MIRCONA customers a real commercial advantage in application areas of parting off and grooving problems often seemingly unachievable by the rest of the carbide tooling industry.

Metal Master - Discover the competitive edge with Metal Master Milling Cutters with Frustum Inserts.

We’ve turned the corner to twenty-first century technology. When you use Metal Master Milling Cutters with patented Frustum inserts. Frustum inserts are double sided, giving you up to a maximum of 24 cutting edges per insert (What face milling insert gives you up to 24 cutting edges?). You don’t have to sacrifice toughness and durability for speed (or vice versa) as you do when you choose between conventional inserts. In fact, Frustum inserts eliminate the need to compare positive versus negative geometries. Now, you just compare Frustum to everything else. And Frustum beats everything else. Because mass is relocated outside the cutting edge it strengthens, stabilizes, and aids in heat dissipation. Even the severe shock associated with interrupted cuts is no problem. In other words, Frustum lasts longer so productivity climbs.

Metal Master Milling Cutters are available in Weldon Shank (side lock holder), integral R8 taper shank and all popular shell mill diameters, along with a 'wiper blade' facility to possibly eliminate grinding operations.

New coated grades of Combidex threading inserts available from Advanced Carbide Tooling Ltd provide greatly extended tool life in a wide range of applications.

The inserts, which have been extensively tested, are designed for use on most materials at low to high cutting speeds, including difficult-to-machine stainless steel and aerospace materials.

The new FXA grade incorporates a multi-layer titanium-aluminium-nitride coating which results in particularly, effective heat dissipation generated by the cutting process, resulting in longer insert life. The coating is applied by physical vapor deposition to a high-performance sub-micrograin carbide substrate.

A HSS Tin and TICN coated range of inserts allows slower cutting speeds for smaller diameters and production in difficult to machine 'sticky' materials, providing excellent thread quality.

A comprehensive range of holders gives Combidex customers the ability to produce threads externally, including difficult behind shoulder operations and internal threads down to 6mm minimum bore, all using economical three cutting edge inserts.

A.C.T. 2.2 - 2.2mm Tooling Range

The latest development of the 2.2mm tooling programme supplied by Advanced Carbide  Tooling Ltd covers the introduction of a new carbide insert which incorporates a chip former.

These new insert geometries are suitable for parting-off and deep radial grooving on long chipping materials up to 42mm diameter, including stainless steels together with high temperature resistant aerospace alloys.

A sintered geometry forms watch-spring shaped swarf which is narrower than the turned groove. This produces excellent surface finishes with optimum chip removal from the cutting zone.

Insert geometries include positive rakes for 'soft sticky' materials and a 9 º negative top rake which provides a strong front cutting edge, ideal for parting-off solid bar to the centre with minimal pip size. Inserts also have a 5 º and 8 º angled cutting edge, designed to eliminate residual burrs when parting off components to a hole. ACT also offer 15 º sharp cornered inserts for parting off small diameter turned parts.

Latest insert geometries along with coated and uncoated carbide and coated high speed steel grades can be supplied. Tool holders include left hand and right hand versions in five shank sizes from 10mm to 25mm square with reaches of 13mm, 16mm and 21mm.

A vee seat location is combined with a positive stop which ensures that inserts are accurately located and not pushed back during operation. The flush fitting top clamp ensures unrivalled swarf removal from the cutting zone allowing coolant to the cutting edge maximising insert life and improving surface finish.

There are many tooling manufacturers offering a wide range of tools and inserts for sliding head machine tool applications.

Unfortunately there are few tooling systems which reflect the specific needs or requirements of automatic lathes.

For more than 30 years Dieterle have exclusively been producing tools for automatic lathes.

Consider the following features which benefit customers using Dieterle:

  • Only hardened or high-yield-point material is used in the production of Dieterle tool holders.
  • A full range of shank dimensions and a variety of lengths are available to meet all requirements.
  • Inserts offered are ground all over or completely sintered. A high precision in interchanging and indexing of inserts is always achieved.
  • 0 - 0.8 mm corner radii are available.
  • Various insert geometries and carbide grades including cermet are available to cater for all types of material and chip control, particularly for high-alloy and stainless steels.
  • Unique insert fixing simplifies cutting edge indexing.
  • All the tools of Dieterle's internal machining range fit in length and diameter to the toolholders of the most commonly used CNC-turret and cam-controlled lathes. Thanks to Dieterle's heavy-metal holders even the smallest diameters can be machined, free from vibration and with high precision.
  • Using the Dieterle product range for your turning, boring and parting-off applications, you will achieve quality, high performance and economic efficiency.
