TOOLMAKERS ‘IN THE GROOVE’picture1

G & B Toolmaking Ltd called upon A.C.T.’s ability to produce tooling for unusual grooving applications. The Gloucestershire toolmakers manufacture large Toolsteel & Stainless Steel segment plates, used to grind powders for the Pharmaceutical Industry.

‘We have always used a specially ground solid carbide tool to produce the extensive grooves in the segments, taking several cuts to achieve the form required’ says Andy Jones.’ We get immediate cost savings on tooling when we utilise Nine9 standard indexable tooling’.

ACT reduces production time by half:

The operation has been reduced to a roughing and a finishing cut to produce the 22 grooves in each segment, a total distance of 3.85 metres per cutting edge is achieved.

Machining conditions on a new XYZ 1010VMC allows 6300rpm, with a table feed of 200m/min whilst taking a 3mm Depth of Cut. This has reduced component production from 16 hour per part to only 6 hours.

‘We are delighted to save 10 hours per part’ adds Andy ‘We now also use the Nine9 V060  indexable engraving tool for marking the parts too!’

NC spot drills: use indexable carbide inserts, providing efficiency benefits and cost savings for CNC lathes, CNC turning centres and machining centres.
One tool can perform multiple applications.
